// Thankful Heart // (5)

I have been so crazy busy recently, so it was nice to sort of take an evening off last night and just chill out with Mum and Logan. We watched a movie, ate a nice dinner and talked. Then I got thinking about how much I have to be thankful for <3
-For instance, this gorgeous sunset and the beautiful sakura blossoms.
-Wonderful music introduced to me by my friends' dad!
-Work I absolutely love.
-Kind, wonderful, brave, beautiful, passionate, God-fearing loving friends.
-My wonderful Mama and fiancĂ© to talk about God with and just to think through things with.
-Delicious food. Mainly chips.
-The end of Term 3 (even if I still have to work and study because semester is still going)
-Learning vocal music I LOVE! I'm so blessed by my music! Thank You Father for song!
-A second peaceful night off tonight!
-Super easy face masks which make your skin feel great - 1 egg white, beaten. You leave it on your face 10 minutes and then wash it off! And that's it!!
-A magical, beautiful day at the International Spring Festival today!
-Adorable Polaroid photos with precious friends <3
-My first time going through a "haunted" house at festival today! It was super fun hehe.
-Chocolate smoothies. Enough said.
-Football with some of my favourite people ever.
-Daylight savings!
-A fiancé who shares what God is teaching him with me and who washes my feet when I'm tired.
-God's glorious artwork everywhere during spring!

Well, that's all from me for now!

You Love Me Anyway

I was listening to music whilst I worked on assignments and wedding stuff this morning, and this song by the Sidewalk Prophets came on. I found myself stopping my work and listening intently to the lyrics as it reached the bridge.

Y'know, sometimes, I think, we get so caught up in life, we forget the enormity of who we really are, and what Christ has truly done for us.
I am a thorn in Your crown
But You love me anywayI am the sweat from Your brow
But You love me anywayI am the nail in Your wrist
But You love me anywayI am Judas’ kiss
But You love me anyway
See now, I am the man who yelled out from the crowd
For Your blood to be spilled on this earth shaking ground
Yes then I turned away with the smile on my face
With this sin in my heart tried to bury Your grace
And then alone in the night I still called out for You
So ashamed of my life,
But You love me anyway

It’s like nothing in life that I’ve ever known
Yes, You love me anyway
Oh, Lord, how You love me

Isn't that a powerful reminder?! I so needed that today. Thank You, Jesus, for what You have done for me and my brothers and sisters, thought we are the thorns in Your crown and Judas' kiss. Thank You.

DIY - Puff Balls

Let me start this post with a disclaimer: Whilst I am a super artistic and creative person in some areas of life, actual art or crafts are not an area I excel in - at ALL! haha :) So any projects I post on here are guaranteed to be super simple!

Pom-pom Strings -
What You Need:
Mini pom-poms
2 metres (or how every long you want) of cotton
A needle
Something to store them on

Okay: So these are really mim pom-poms. But I prefer to call them puff balls ;) I bought about 1000 puff balls (no exaggeration haha) - they're about NZ$2 for bags of several hundred, so this was a nice, cheap exercise.
Next, I poured them all into a box and mixed them up. We're going for a bit of a rainbow theme with some of our reception decorations, so I'm not really colour coding.

Next step - thread the needle with about 2 metres (or how ever long you want) of cotton. Tie a knot in the other end of the thread.
Start threading puff balls into it. Leave a small gap between each puff ball if you want to save money on buying more haha :)
Keep threading until you get all the way through the thread. Then remove the needle and tie a knot in that end too. If you're not using them for a while, I suggest wrapping them around something like an empty toilet roll and then taping them on so they stay.
This is what they will look like eventually. I'm planning to string them up outside (depending on the wind haha). Aren't they cute?!

Stay tuned for more crafts and stuff in the coming weeks!

Let our love be genuine

Something I've been thinking about recently is the way Christians are viewed by non-Christians. A lot of them look down on us and call us hypocrites. And in a lot of ways, they'd be right. We can never live up to the standards of our Saviour, and so we strive to be humble and live as reflections of the grace we've received.

But something I've noticed recently is a huge trend of Christians "bashing" or talking down about other Christians. And I know I, myself, have definitely been guilty of this :( It's something I've been working on. But as I've noticed it in my own life, I've also noticed it all around me. Social media is probably the place where it is worst.
Y'all know I appreciate some things from the "Duck Dynasty" Robertson Family - and I really like some of the things she said in this video.
Now, don't get me wrong, I do think it's important that Christians be honest with each other and point out errors in each other's lives to them in love, we need to help each other and stop each other from back-sliding - but that needs to be done one on one, or with a couple of people, but NOT on social media or by spreading rumours.

As she says - Judgement is not what we are about. The greatest command in God's word is that we are to LOVE. Matthew 22:37 Jesus replied: “‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’[a] 38 This is the first and greatest commandment. 39 And the second is like it: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’[b] 40 All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments.”

Now, of course, true love means being honest, so we have to be honest with each other about tough things sometimes - I have wonderful friends who do this for me, and I SO appreciate it! But that's not what I'm getting at, I'm getting at when people who don't really know one another get on social media and make judgements about other Christians. This sets such a terrible example to those who don't believe.
Jesus last prayer on earth was for something we don't really expect - it was for unity amongst believers.

John 17:20 “My prayer is not for them alone. I pray also for those who will believe in me through their message, 21 that all of them may be one, Father, just as you are in me and I am in you. May they also be in us so that the world may believe that you have sent me. 22 I have given them the glory that you gave me, that they may be one as we are one 23 I in them and you in me—so that they may be brought to complete unity. Then the world will know that you sent me and have loved them even as you have loved me.

That is such an unexpected thing for Him to pray for as His last prayer on earth, to my small human might anyway haha, but it clearly shows that we need to take this seriously. Unity amongst believers is vital - even if they hold to slightly different standards or are convicted on different issues. For instance, I'd hold to slightly different dress standards to Sadie Robertson based on my personal convictions, and that's OKAY! :) If they are serious issues, we should definitely approach our brothers and sisters about them. But it is important to remember, there is no worse thing for our witness than to bash each other :(
My prayer is that, as believers, our love be genuine for one another, and that we would be united and true to one another, and to Christ, even through our differences. The Bible says through our fruits we will be known (Matthew 7 - you should totally read the whole chapter! :D), so let our fruits be love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self control.
It is SO true that words matter (I'm speaking to myself here too!) - let's choose words that build others up and that unite, not divide!

Much love,
Nina xx
P.S. Disclaimer - I do not believe that, in saying we shouldn't be being judgemental to our brothers in sisters on social media, that we then have license to be doing whatever we want, regardless of God's standards :) We should always be striving to live fully for Him!

Bollywood Sounds

Anyone who knows me well knows my obsession with Bollywood/Indian films and even more than that, the music! I just LOVE the sounds. It's not just Indian music/Indian fusion music - I'm pretty keen on music from all different cultures, but for today, I felt like sharing a couple of my favourite Indian fusion pieces.

Million Dollar Arm - Makhna

Slumdog Millionaire - Jai Ho
There's a reason this movie won an Oscar for best song.

Bride and Prejudice - Balle Balle
Million Dollar Arm - We Could Be Kings
This one is a real fusion piece thanks to A R Rahman and KT Tunstall - so cool!
Slumdog Millionaire - Latika's Theme
This one is a bit different, but I still adore it!
The Hundred Foot Journey - Afreen
Of course, this one is by A R Rahman as well. This is probably my all time favourite song! So good!

Of course, there are heaps more songs in this style that I love (and no, not all of them are by A R Rahman haha), but I think that's enough for now!
Hope you're all have a beautiful week!

As Long as I breathe

Oh God, You are my God,
I will seek You with all my heart,
My soul thirsts for You,
I will bless You as long as I breathe.
Oh God, You are my God,
I will seek You through the night,
My soul thirsts for You,
I will bless You as long as I breathe.
I have seen You in Your holy temple
And beheld Your glory and strength
Your great love and mercy are better than life,
I will bless You as long as I breathe.
Those who seek our destruction descend to Sheol
As we rest beneath Your wings,
You will silence their lying mouths Adonai,
Your right hand upholds me.
Oh God, You are my God,
I will seek You with all my heart,
My soul thirsts for You,
I will bless You as long as I breathe.
Oh God, You are my God,
I will seek You through the night,
My soul thirsts for You,
I will bless You as long as I breathe.

I will bless you as long as I breathe....

//Thankful Heart// (4)

-I woke up to the interesting sound of a mouse trying to get to my chocolate in one of my drawers at 5am this morning... Hmm... Not the best experience ever. I think a little banging around from me dislodged the mouse and the chocolate has been rescued. Having woken up early, I spent a while praying and just thinking, and therefore, I am thankful for my mouse-alarm clock :D All the same... I'd rather that didn't occur again haha :P
I'm thankful for 20 years of this amazing girl on Monday <3
We've been friends for the entirety of her teen years now - cool!
-For all the beautiful weather we've been having :D And I'm thankful for the less nice weather too, as it makes us appreciate the rest of it more haha.
-Learning a new song - a Lied called Ich Liebe Dich (I Love Thee) - it is so beautiful!!
-Logan and I getting to go to friends for dinner last night, and having a wonderful time!
-Long river walks and amazing chats with the craziest girl I know <3
-Getting RSVPs from people for our wedding!
-A fun assignment to write :O
-Tea. Of course.
-And gingernuts.
-Craft projects that actually work out.
-Receiving my new passport :D :D
-Fun babysitting my cousin's kids (and my grandparents haha) with Logan! I love this photo of "Big Logan" and "Little Logan".
-For amazing reminders like this:

Spring time is near

I can hardly believe how this year is rushing by. Mid-semester break for our second semester is over, and I'm back into my studies. I'm really enjoying getting on into things. I've also been really enjoying our wedding planning. It's only 2 and a half months until our big day now (I nearly wrote hours - oops, that would be scary! :P).

We're starting to feel pretty well ready now - we've sorted most of the outfits, the flowers, the vehicles, the venues and so on. And now I'm working on sorting out the decorations for the reception.

The MICIgirls got to make some beautiful candle holders from Mason Jars on Saturday as a part of our session. I loved so much how they've turned out, I decided I'd love to have some as part of our reception.
This is how my mason jar turned out - isn't it cute?! I'm gonna post a "how-to" tutorial on this at some point soon if anyone wants to make one too - it is a super easy craft.

This morning after work, I went out and got a whole lot of craft supplies ready to put together decorations. They all look pretty funny as they are, but I can't wait to share the finished result - it's going to look so cute!
As much as I'm enjoying all the preparations, what I'm enjoying even more is seeking God's will in our lives with my Logan. We're having a lot of people at our wedding, and for some of them, this will probably be one of their only experiences of hearing God's truth, and being amongst His people. We want, more than anything else, for our wedding to be a witness to all these people.

You see, there's far more to a wedding than just the joining of two people into one before God and their loved ones. It is symbolic of something far more beautiful - the future marriage of Jesus and His bride -the church.

I'd love it if you were to join me in praying that this may be the case, that people's heart's will be touched and their lives changed.

With love,
Nina xx

Peculiar Treasures

One of my all time favourite verses is this verse from Exodus 19.
Anyone who knows me well knows I'm a huge fan of Robin Jones Gunn's writing. This verse was a significant one in her Christy Miller series, and played a huge part in my realising my identity in Christ. I was so excited when this verse and the one below were two of the theme verses for this week's MICI girls' session.

I just love that. Though we are not worthy, through our Saviour Jesus Christ, we have been chosen as a treasure for God, to serve and glorify Him.

In Romans 8, we are told that we are, through Christ, heirs of God. Okay. Stop and read that again.

14For those who are led by the Spirit of God are the children of God.
15The Spirit you received does not make you slaves, so that you live in fear again; rather, the Spirit you received brought about your adoption to sonship. And by him we cry, "Abba, Father."16The Spirit himself testifies with our spirit that we are God's children.17Now if we are children, then we are heirs--heirs of God and co-heirs with Christ, if indeed we share in his sufferings in order that we may also share in his glory.

Okay. Stop and read that again. How incredible is that?! The God of the U N I V E R S E has called us His own, and not only His own, but also His heirs! The more you think about it, the more difficult it is to comprehend, and the more beautiful it is too.

One of my favourite authors, Francis Chan, who wrote Crazy Love and You & Me Forever (with his wife), put together a video called the awe-factor of God. It shows a small sliver of how incredible God's creation is.
Ladies and gentlemen, my brothers and sisters in Christ, THIS is the God who has called us His own treasures, His royal priesthood, His HEIRS!! If we are His in Christ, then this is our true identity. Mind=Blown!

The God who made this:
And this:
And this:
Not to mention her:
This child:
These children:
These people:
And everyone, and everything else! Including YOU! Has chosen His people and called us His own treasures. I just love that.

At the start of our session, we had brought out a treasure box full of things we would consider worldly treasures. At the end, we filled it with our own names.
I think often we forget who we are in Christ, and this was a really special reminder for me. We are His own treasures. Glorify the Lord for His grace, mercy and love!

A Little Update

Hi lovely readers!

I've been working on so many long and detailed posts recently, yet haven't actually posted ANY of them. So here's a quick update on what I'm up to!

First, it was my lovely friend Violet (from our Violets and Daisies blog) 21st birthday - yay!! Happy birthday Violet! She had a masquerade themed party, which was SO much fun, even though I was really sick. I'm so glad I was able to go, and still MC for it though!
Beautiful ladies! Doesn't Violet look gorgeous in her red dress!
The masks were so much fun!
Captain America was there - I think I'm in love *sigh* ;) ;)
We also had our first official MICI girls session last week. It was so much fun and so special! I loved it! There are lots of photos up on our MICI website - one of my lovely bridesmaids took all the photos and they are so lovely!

Also, since it's mid semester break, I've had lots more free time to catch up with people. I've really enjoyed that. I took my grandparents op-shopping yesterday and Logan and I had dinner with them tonight. I've also caught up with lots of my friends. I've stolen that same bridesmaid's photos (hope you don't mind hehe) from our catch up today hehe - aren't they cute?!
Love these girls <3
And of course, I've been working. And planning our wedding! Less than 100 days away now... But anyway, that's all I have to share for now. I'll try post one of my long posts some time soon! :)
Hope you're all having a lovely week!
